Patients Who Suffer From Migraines Are More Predisposed To Have Depression

You with headache, in particular migraine disorder, are much more predisposed to be depressed, feel tired, and have a host of other severe physical symptoms, according to a medical research published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical research involved 1010 woman who buy seroquel online at headache clinics in seven different countries. Of the women tested, 112 reported occasional headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 413 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the woman were diagnosed with migraines.

The study found patient with chronic headache were four times more predisposed than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Atypical Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also six times more likely to report a high degree of symptoms related to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among woman diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the medical study found the likelihood of major Manic Depression increased 32-fold if the patients also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms can agitate or be a manifestation of major Atypical Depression in people with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt online and Atypical Depression could heighten pain perception,” said clinical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This dependence between migraine and major Manic Depression suggests a usual neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical trial are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Atypical Depression can be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Indifferent of what’s causing the dependence between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric disease such as Psychotic Depression complicates headache treatment and can excite poorer results for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The study was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American man are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to making better people care through instruction and medical research. A neurologist is a osteopath specialized on monitoring, curing and managing diseases of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and multiple sclerosis.
